RIP Paul Daniels: pioneering rapper and weaver of surrealist nightmares

As far as Dirty Tapas is concerned, the magic is a footnote. This man was a genius of dystopian fantasy magic realism, capable of conjuring a blizzard of bizarre characters in a rich fantastical environment and cloaking them in the milieu of children's fiction in a way that Lewis Carroll would be envious. Not only that, he was the ringmaster of it all, rapping over the signature music in a way which in its dazzling originality quickly crossed the Atlantic and inspired the likes of disciples including Jay-Z, P Diddy and 50 Cent. It's even rumoured that this towering achievement of anthropomorphisation was the reference to which Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr was nodding when he anointed himself with his more familiar moniker, Snoop Dogg. The facts are there for all to see. It can only be a matter of time before the canon of Dali, Picasso, Ernst and Magritte gains another name, the truly worthy name of Daniels. And it's all courtesy of his magnum opus, Wizbit:
